Phototherapy NB-UVB Booth by Daavlin

The Choice Dermatology Basking Ridge office is excited to add the full-body narrow band UVB booth form Daavlin to our collection of treatments! This device helps treat conditions such as psoriasis, vitiligo, and more. Since this is a fairly unknown treatment, let's learn a little bit more.

What is Phototherapy?

Phototherapy is the use of a medical device that emits specific wavelengths of ultraviolet light to treat skin diseases. The Narrow Band UVB is the most commonly used type of light and is very effective. With more research being done every day, Narrow Band UVB continues to show its versatility with its promising results.

What is the treatment like?

A typical treatment regimen is three exposures per week, but your dermatologist will suggest what is appropriate for your condition. Initial treatments may last seconds long but will gradually increase in length. With psoriasis, clearance will require 25-30 treatments if the therapy is consistently used. With vitiligo, the repigmentation is generally a slower process. After ending the treatment, symptoms may gradually reappear after several months of remission.

What are the benefits?

Research confirms that patients may enjoy longer remission period after treatment with the NB-UVB booth. Remission periods are markedly superior to those of broad band UVB treatments. Studies show that 38-40% of NB-UVB patients require no additional therapy for at least 12 months after treatment.

Although this isn't a perfect "cure" for chronic skin conditions, 85% of psoriasis patients achieve significant clearing with Narrow Band UVB.
